Charles Stapleton

Charles H. Stapleton Jr. was born on June 1st, 1929. He played basketball for three seasons from 1945-1947, scoring 605 points. He led his team to three District Championships in 1945, 1946, and 1947, and a Regional Runner-Up in 1947. He hit a game winning shot to beat the eventual State Champions Maysville on the road 43-41 in double-overtime. Charles was selected to the All-10th Region Team, Courier-Journal All-State Honorable Mention, and selected to the Kentucky East-West All-Star Game in 1947.

Charlie did not plan on playing college basketball, so he declined to play in the 1947 Kentucky All-Star game. However, He suggested to Coach Diddle of Western Kentucky to pick his friend Joe B. Hall of Cynthiana to play in his place.

He received an offer to play at Western Kentucky University but declined. Charles Stapleton Jr. passed away on January 15th, 2015. He was inducted into the 10th Region Hall of Fame in 2019.
